Rarotonga Island Resort Map
RAROTONGA is the capital of Cook Islands. This beautiful island is of volcanic origin, roughly circular and only just over 30 kms in circumference. Its natural beauty includes majestic mountain peaks (to 653 metres), white coral sand beaches and a coral reef that encircles the island. This creates an inner lagoon for safe swimming, snorkelling and other recreational pursuits. Scenic views from the shore take in the waves breaking on the outer reef and migrating whales may be sited in the ocean at certain times of the year.
Most resorts and tourist accommodation is found on the coastlines in the west, south and east.
Most of Cook Islands population is found on Rarotonga, which also features the International Airport 4 kilometres from the main town of Avarua. Here can be found government offices, shops, restaurants and cafes and the port at Avatiu Harbour.
